June 15 Training Day

Date(s) - 06/15/2019
7:00 am - 4:00 pm

Cobb Lake SWA

This training day will be held at Cobb Lake from 7am to 4pm on June 15, 2019. Please read the material on the Training tab and the Training/Training Days page for an overview of our approach to the different levels and areas of training. Also, see the Resources tab with links to other useful information. These training days are conducted to help teach you how to train your own pointing dog. In order to develop your dog into a reliable and consistent hunting companion, it is advantageous to spend time training your dog at home daily as well as exposing your dog to birds in the field throughout the month.

We have two training days left until the Fall RMC NAVHDA Test and the beginning of the 2019-2020 Hunting Season.  We are going to circle back around to our initial training day timeline for most of the day.  There is a limited number of birds available for this training day.  First priority on birds will be given to handlers testing in August until we reach the total number of birds on hand.  Bird orders are limited to 2 Chukar and 1 Duck per Handler. Not all handlers will get birds, so please get orders in early and watch for emails regarding bird availability.  Because of the extra communications this month, training day sign up will CLOSE Wednesday, June 12th at 5:00 p.m.

10:00-11:00         Utility Dogs: Steady at the Blind

We will work Utility dogs that have not run a Utility test to date.  We are going to dissect the components of the tests with handlers one on one to provide feedback on areas that need focused on in daily training.

11:00-12:00        Progression Clinic – Force Fetch

For any NA and UT Handlers who are interested in learning about developing a reliable retriever.

We are going to take some time to walk handlers through the beginning stages of Hold and Carry.  Beginning stages of Steadiness (Whoa progression) will be discussed in detail at the Kyle Hough Clinic at the end of the month and therefore we will not be addressing it at this training day. There are still spots available so turn in registration forms and checks to Sara!

**Utility Handlers – Begin working on Individual Training Goals for the rest of the day.  Plan on teaming up with other handlers and work where your dog needs the attention on the following areas:

  • Live Fire in Back Field ONLY NO EXCEPTIONS!
  • Duck Search
  • Steady at the Blind will stay set up for additional work if needed

12:00- End of Day             Individual Training

Individual training on grounds for all handlers.  Cobb SWA will be available for individual training.  Find some training partners and enjoy the rest of the day!

Please register by filling in the form below. There is no cost for members to attend.  Fill out the total number of chukar, ducks, and pheasants you want to order from Black Hollow Gamebirds on the form. Your birds will be available first thing in the morning in the north parking lot of Cobb Lake State Wildlife Area. Please arrive early to purchase and collect your birds. Remember to bring your own bird bag and cage for transport of birds. Once you take possession of your birds, they are your responsibility!

Please indicate in the ‘Training Focus/Comment’ section any issue that you may want extra help with and we will attempt to be prepared to help or answer questions.

2021 – Annual Meeting

Hello Everyone!
Please see the below message from our Jake Heesacker, our Chapter President. Only paid 2020 and 2021 memberships will receive a link to attend our annual meeting. As you will read below, you can now pay your dues online; making it easier than ever to stay current. THANK YOU to Steve Roberts for making this happen for us.

Candice Cooper
RMC-NAVHDA, Secretary

Hello RMC NAVHDA members!

I hope each and every one of you has been able to get your dogs out and enjoy some hunting this season!

As hunting season winds down for the year, it is time to start preparing for training and testing season. Every year we kick off the new training season with our annual meeting, and this year will be no different. However, with the current state of COVID-19 and the regulations regarding large indoor gatherings, we will be holding a virtual annual meeting for 2021.

The RMC NAVHDA Annual Meeting will be held virtually on January 9, 2021 at 6:00pm.

The week prior to the meeting I will send out an invite to all of you with the link to the meeting. At that time I will also send all of you a copy of the agenda and chapter financial report. At the meeting we will discuss the dates of our upcoming tests as well as training opportunities in 2021.

The annual meeting is also where the membership has the opportunity to volunteer and vote for positions on the RMC Board of Directors. If you would like to volunteer to serve on the RMC Board of Directors in 2021, please reply to this email so I can reach out to you and discuss opportunities to serve next year.

I would also like to take this time to remind everyone that chapter memberships are due for renewal on January 1, 2021. I would also like to announce that you are now able to renew your membership (or become a new member if you have a friend looking to join the chapter) on the website via credit card at rmc-navhda.com. I would like to shout out a huge THANK YOU to Steve Roberts and Candice Cooper for getting our chapter set up to take credit card payments on the website! It makes paying our memberships more convenient for everybody! Here is the link to the website for memberships: https://www.rmc-navhda.com/join/

Thank you all for being members of our great chapter! Myself and the Board are looking forward to seeing and training with each and everyone of you in 2021!
